About Rotaract
What is Rotaract? It’s an international program for adults ages 18 to 30, founded in 1968 by Rotary International (the USA). Today, there are more than 7,300 Rotaract clubs with some 170,000 members in over 150 countries, including Ukraine. Rotaract Clubs enable their members to grow personally and professionally, address community needs and promote international understanding through friendship and service.
Rotaract clubs hold weekly meetings, which feature interesting speakers and discussion of current issues. Rotaractors get together for service projects, social activities and leadership workshops. Moreover, club members can take advantage of conferences, seminars and programs at an international level.
Rotaract is a wonderful opportunity to get invaluable experience of project management and develop your leadership skills. The club is governed by the Executive Committee which is elected for a one year term from July 1st of the current year to June 30th of the next year. The Board of Directors consists of President, Past President (the club member who took the office of President last year), Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. They have certain areas of responsibility, and for every project we appoint Project Coordinators. Such experiences help you not only to grow professionally, but also develop you into a greater leader. It will be valuable for young professionals who just start their career, as being Rotaract members can help them improve their resumes greatly.
In Ukraine, the Rotaract movement started in the early 1990s. RAC Kyiv, the oldest club in Ukraine, was founded in April 1994 by Rotary Club Kyiv. After that, new clubs in Lvov, Ternopol, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Simferopol, Rovno, Poltava, Uzhgorod, a second club in Kyiv (Kyiv-Centre), Yalta, Sumy, Cherkassy (Cherkassy-Smile) and Zhaporozhie were chartered. As of today, we have a total of 14 Rotaract clubs in Ukraine. Besides that, we have actively developing initiative groups which after the charter procedure (receipt of official registration) will add to the list of RACs of Ukraine. Now Ukrainian clubs are a part of District 2230, comprising RACs and RCs in Ukraine, Poland and Belarus. It opens numerous opportunities for travels and more close communication between these countries.
